Inscription Wat Hanchey, Kampong Cham Province

>> Monday, November 30, 2009

This temple tower stands above the Mekong on the Wat Hanchey hill in Kampong Cham Province, near the town of the same name.

It is said to be an eighth-century Pre-Angkorian structure (from the Kingdom of Chenla), and carved in the inside of the stone doorframe are two inscriptions.

The inscription on the right hand side almost fills the face of the stone, the one on the left hand side, perhaps one-third.

If only. If only I could read it. Somewhere there must be at least a French translation of it.

A script recognizably Khmer, more than 1200 years old.

No. It's not ancient Egyptian hierglyphics in its "ancientness".

But ..... if only.
